The sensational Jyoti murder case took a new turn on Saturday when it emerged that her husband Piyush Dasani and his girlfriend Manisha Makhija were very keen to witness the grisly murder.

According to sources in the district jail here, Piyush and his girlfriend watched the killers pinning Jyoti down and stabbing her repeatedly, even as she begged to be spared.

While the horrible act was being played out, Jyoti’s blood spilled on Piyush’s T-shirt and jeans and he was left with no other option but to leave and change his blood stained clothes to avoid being caught, the sources said.

It has also come to light that dozens of vehicles passed by when the murder was being committed and many vehicle occupants watched Jyoti being killed but surprisingly none came forward to save her or pass on the information to police.

The above information came to light while going through the conversation Piyush had with his associates — Renu Kannaujia, Sonu Kashyap and Awdhesh Chaturvedi — in jail.

Piyush was sent to jail on Wednesday and kept in the visiting (mulahza) barrack along with his associates. Manisha is lodged in a separate barrack of the jail.

A top cop, pleading anonymity, informed HT about the details of Piyush’s conversation in jail.

Meanwhile, top police officials evaded questions as to why police didn’t recover Piyush’s clothes so far.

However, inspector general of police (IG) Ashutosh Pandey said he had asked investigation officers to obtain a search warrant from court to recover the clothes which Piyush had worn at the time of Jyoti’s murder.

He further admitted that Piyush was present on the crime scene, but neither confirmed nor denied whether his girlfriend was there.
