Accused was involved in house-grabbing racket too

Ram Sevak Yadav, 40, accused in Mohanlalganj murder and rape case, was not just a security guard. He was also associated with a racket involved in illegally occupying abandoned and vacant houses in newly developed colonies on the outskirts. As part of the foul practice, vacant houses were occupied illegally and then let out on rent.

“He just posed as a security guard. I am surprised how police claim he was security guard at an under-construction building on Rae Bareli Road,” said a source who was earlier associated with Sevak, while revealing hidden facts about him to a social body.

The source said Ram Sevak’s main work was to spot abandoned houses in colonies, of which authorised people had not taken possession. “He was associated with a gang that illegally occupies the vacant houses in colonies and

gives it on rent,” said the source.

He said the gang also had links with some government officials, who helped it in occupying the vacant houses. He said the money procured from people as rent was distributed among the members. The gang had occupied many houses in colonies on Rae Bareli and Hardoi roads, he said.

The source said Ram Sevak was also very close to a Mafioso-turned politician living in Mahanagar. He and his gang had the backing of the Mafioso, who often helped them through different means. A woman living in Krishna Nagar was also involved with the gang, as were two people of Malihabad with a criminal background , the source said, adding that Ram Sevak intentionally posed as a security guard to misguide people. However, the agency with which he claimed to be employed was also being run illegally without proper registration, he said.

Ram Sevak is in jail since his arrest on July 20 for the gruesome murder and rape of a 35-year-old woman, whose unclothed and blood -soaked body was found on the premises of a primary school in Balsinghkheda village of Mohanlalganj on July 17. Police had claimed to have solved the case after his arrest and said he had acted alone.

The victim’s family, however, was not ready to buy the police theory after which the state government recommended CBI probe into the case on July 28.
