PM takes along ‘godson’, reunites him with family

KATHMANDU: It was an emotional moment at Hotel Hyatt Residency here on Sunday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi handed over his ‘godson’ Jeet Bahadur Saru Magar to his parents.

Jeet, who had been staying with Modi for the past 15 years, had accompanie­d him on his Nepal visit.

“I never dreamt I will come back to Nepal along with Modiji and be able to meet my family,” the elated 27-year-old told media persons soon after.

His mother Khagisara, brother Dasrath and his wife and younger sister Prem Kumari came to Kathmandu all the way from their village in Nawalparas­i district.

T he I ndian embassy i n Kathmandu had arranged for their stay in the same hotel as Modi.

“It’s an amazing moment. I have only given birth to Jeet, but it is Modiji who was actually taken care of him. He is very benevolent,” an emotional Khagisara said.

Nepali industrial­ist Binod Chaudhary, who played a part in finding Jeet’s parents, also expressed happiness at being witness to the family reunion.

Jeet came in touch with Modi went he accidently boarded a train to Ahmedabad from new Delhi in 1998.

Modi soon took the young man under his guidance and ensured he completed his education.

Jeet is currently pursuing BBA from Rai University, in Ahmedabad.
