Ex-DIG accused of beating up BSNL shop employee

- HT Correspondent

LUCKNOW: Retired deputy inspector general (DIG) Ashok Kumar Tandon was accused of beating an employee of the BSNL shop in Capitol building in Hazratganj on Wednesday. The employee has lodged a written complaint with the Hazratganj police but the cops have not registered an FIR even after 24 hours of the incident.

Tandon, who was posted as DIG Special Investigation Cell, had retired recently on October 31.

The victim, Avinash Dixit said Tandon and two persons wearing police uniform came to the shop in a car with a blue beacon.

Tandon was angry as his SIM card was not activated even after two days. This was because he had not completed his identity verification process. But the ex-DIG got annoyed when informed about the process and he and the two others beat him up.

He said the entire event was recorded in the CCTV camera installed inside the shop and he had handed over the footage to the local cops.

Dixit said the cops at the Hazratganj police station were initially ready to register the complaint but they refused after watching the footage in which the ex-DIG was clearly visible. The ex-DIG, however, was not available for comment, as his cell phone was switched off.
