Woman con­sta­ble jumps be­fore mov­ing train, dies

A woman con­sta­ble com­mit­ted sui­cide by jumping be­fore a mov­ing train in Khadri un­der Ma­diaon po­lice area on Fri­day morn­ing.

A na­tive of Lakhimpur dis­trict, Su­ra­j­mukhi, 50, was posted with the po­lice lines and re­cently trans­ferred to Jankipu­ram po­lice sta­tion. She was re­sid­ing in Khadri as a ten­ant in the house of another con­sta­ble, Deshraj Verma. She was yet to join the Jankipu­ram po­lice sta­tion.

Su­ra­j­mukhi had left the house for a morn­ing walk around 5.30 am but did not come back till late. Sens­ing trou­ble, her driver went out search­ing for her and came to know that she had com­mit­ted sui­cide. Some eye­wit­nesses said Su­ra­j­mukhi was sit­ting along the rail­way track and when the train came she sud­denly jumped be­fore it.

Suman and Manorma, sis­ters of the de­ceased, said she had di­vorced with her hus­band Rad­heyshyam some 24 years ago and had also been up­set over her daugh­ter’s love mar­riage. Due to th­ese set­backs, Su­ra­j­mukhi had started drink­ing and used to re­main de­pressed, said fam­ily mem­bers.
