Check il­le­gal LPG kit ve­hi­cles fer­ry­ing school kids, says HC

AL­LA­HABAD: In an im­por­tant judg­ment with re­gard to safety of school go­ing chil­dren, the Al­la­habad high court has di­rected the ad­min­is­tra­tion, trans­port depart­ment of­fi­cials and po­lice to come down heav­ily on those il­le­gally fit­ted LPG kit ve­hi­cles that were fer­ry­ing chil­dren to and from schools.

The di­vi­sion bench of chief jus­tice Dr DY Chan­drachud and jus­tice PKS Baghel while is­su­ing a di­rec­tion to the Al­la­habad ad­min­is­tra­tion, trans­port depart­ment and the po­lice has said they should get in touch with schools and take stern steps against own­ers of such LPG fit­ted ve­hi­cles that were ply­ing il­le­gally thereby risk­ing lives of school­child­ren.

The or­der came while hear­ing a pub­lic in­ter­est lit­i­ga­tion (PIL) pe­ti­tion filed by one Aman Mani Tri­pathi and four other law in­terns.

The high court has also di­rected schools to ap­prise all such ve­hi­cle own­ers of the im­pend­ing ac­tion against them. The court has also di­rected that par­ents of chil­dren should also be told not to send their wards in such ve­hi­cles that were be­ing run on il­le­gal LPG fit­ted kits.

The court has also di­rected the dis­trict mag­is­trate of Al­la­habad to con­vene a meet­ing of schools, par­ents and pe­ti­tioner lawyers.
