Ele­phant kills tanker driver, ma­hout es­capes

ALI­GARH: An ele­phant killed a tanker driver near a dhaba in Atrauli area of Ali­garh late Thurs­day night. As peo­ple fled from the spot in panic, the ma­hout went away with the ele­phant. In-charge of Atrauli kot­wali, Vinod Kumar, said two tankers were com­ing from Ut­tarak­hand to Ali­garh. The driv­ers, Jag­tar from Lud­hiyana and Tahir from Delhi, had stopped at a dhaba on Ramghat road in Atrauli. Just as Jag­tar was about to sit down for food, an ele­phant stand­ing there trapped him in his trunk and bashed him re­peat­edly against the tanker. Peo­ple fled from the spot, while some in­formed the po­lice. The ma­hout some­how con­trolled the ele­phant and left by the time the po­lice ar­rived. Jag­tar was taken to the com­mu­nity health cen­tre where the doc­tors de­clared him brought dead.
