BURDWAN BLAST MAIN ACCUSED SAJID NABBED
KOLKATA: In a major breakthrough, Sheikh Rehmatullah alias Sajid, a JMB majlis-esurah (central committee member) and chief of the Burdwan module, was arrested by the West Bengal police near the airport here. Fake Indian currency worth ` 1 lakh was recovered from him.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) had announced a reward of ` 10 l akh f or Sajid’s information. Sajid is a resident of Narayanganj in Bangladesh. In India he used to stay at Mukimnagar in Lalgola, Murshidabad district. After the blast NIA had raided a madrasa in the same area.
“We initially intercepted a courier of fake notes who gave us information regarding Sajid. He arrested him under 41 CRPC. He is originally a resident of Narayanganj in Bangladesh. We will hand him over to NIA on Saturday night,” said Rajeev Kumar, commissioner of Bidhannagar city police.
“We also found some documents from Sajid’s possession,” Kankar Prasad Barui, DC DD of Bidhannagar city police said.
The key man who used to motivate on Jihadi ideology in the madrasas of Burdwan — Zia-ul-Haque — was arrested from Khagragore by the National Investigating Agency.
The Burdwan blast took place in October 2, which led to the discovery of jihadi bases in West Bengal which were also used for cross-border terrorism.
