Six held for robbery in doctor’s house, ` 16.35 lakh recovered

LUCKNOW: A hotel management student was arrested with five others on Sunday for robbery in the house of a doctor on October 29.

Police also recovered ` 16.35 lakh of the total ` 22 lakh and jewellery looted from the house after the parents of the doctor, an elderly couple, were tied up and dumped inside a room. All assailants are aged between 19 to 25 years.

The assailants had barged into the house of Dr Anoop Bajpai, a paediatric­ian when his parents KK Bajpai, 70 and Vimla Bajpai, 63 were alone in their Railway Colony house in Thakurganj.

The assailants targeted the house immediatel­y after the doctor and his wife left. They were keeping eye on the doctor’s movement and were well aware that the old couple would be alone in the house for at least two hours.

The ar rested youths are Mohd Haider, 19, (with ` 3 lakh cash and a .32 bore pistol), Saiyad Irfan, 20, (with ` 3 lakh cash and .315 bore gun), Kamil Abbas, 19, (with ` 3 lakh), Manoj Sharma, 25, (with ` 1 lakh), Zaman Rizvi, 19, (with ` 3 lakh) and Sunil Kanaujia, 19, (with ` 2 lakh) Manoj is the driver of the doctor, who helped criminals in recce, while Haider is a hotel management student in a private institute.

It was Manoj who told the other criminals that the elderly couple would be alone in the house for two hours and had provided other informatio­n about the house.

Inspector Atul Srivastava said that none of the arrested had any criminal record in the past. Zaman and Sunil are intermedia­te students while Irfan helps his father in a cycle repair shop.

The robbers had distribute­d the looted money among themselves and were spending lavishly in hotels and shopping centres.

One of them had even gifted ` 50,000 to his girlfriend.
