Steno falls to death from 7th flo or of bank’s building
LUCKNOW: A special stenographer working with the State Bank of India (SBI) died under mysterious circumstances after falling from the seventh floor of the bank’s Hazratganj building on Monday afternoon.
The SBI did not issue any statement on the incident and family members also did not allege foul play. Police sent the body for post-mortem examination and are investigating whether it was suicide or an accident.
Surendra Singh, 58, was under treatment for depression for the past two years. He reached the SBI building along with his son Satwant Singh, for whom formalities regarding an education loan were to be completed . Satwant Singh wanted to pursue post-graduate studies in medical science abroad.
Once in the bank, Surendra, a resident of LDA Colony on Kanpur Road, went straight to his work place and then reached the new building. His son Satwant said while he was fulfilling the formalities for the loan, his father went out and sud- denly there was chaos among the staff. Someone said Surendra had fallen down. He went out to find his father lying on the ground floor in a pool of blood.
A few people in the office raised doubts that Surendra had jumped off but his son refuted such statements and said it was not a suicide. Surendra was rushed to Civil Hospital but the doctors declared him dead.
The bank staff could not tell the police much about the incident.
Satwant is Surendra’s only son while a daughter lives in Mumbai.
