Contrastin­g wins mark day one

LUCKNOW: Govt Jubilee Inter College, St Fidelis and Colvin Taluqdars College notched up contrastin­g wins to make it to the next round of the 14th Avinash Chaturvedi Memorial InterSchoo­l Football Tournament, at the Chowk Stadium here on Monday.

On the opening day, Govt Jubilee Inter College defeated LPC 4-1, St Fidelis beat CMS, Aliganj 4-2 in tie-break after the two sides ended in 1-1 draw at the end of the regulation time. Colvin Taluqdars College had a walkover from Police Modern School, which failed to turn up.

BIG VICTORY

Army Medical Corps (AMC) defeated Castle Football Club (CFC) by 6-0 to collect full points in the District Football League-2015, at the Chowk Stadium here on Monday. K Lakra scored a brace, whereas Johnson, Methui, Noasang and K Mauna shared four goals between them.

In the second match of the day, Union Club defeated Fidles Football Club by 2-0. Nihal Singh and Saurabh scored a goal each. UP Postal had a solitary goal win against Vijay Club in the third and the final match of the day. Hasan scored the all-important in the 28th minute.

CHESS TOURNEY

Pt Ram Adhar Shukla Memorial Open Chess Tournament will be held on August 8 and 9, at the Avijai Chess Academy here. The tournament will be played under Swiss system and FIDE Rules in six rounds. Entry closes on August 7.
