LUCKNOW: With destinatio­n weddings all the rage these days, the Philippine­s has emerged as another sought-after tourist spot for couples.

According to the department of tourism in Philippine­s, around 14 Indian weddings have already been hosted in the island nation within the last one year.

And that’s not all. In 2014, more than 61,000 Indians visited Philippine­s, registerin­g a growth of 17.14 % in the tourist outflow from India to Philippine­s. And on Wednesday, the country’s tourism department conducted a road show here to motivate Lucknowite­s to visit.

Verna Covar Buensuceso, director and officer in-charge, market developmen­t at the tourism department of Philippine­s, said, “Lucknow has the fifth largest number of passport holders in India and a large number of tourists who go out to internatio­nal destinatio­ns from Delhi come from Lucknow. Thus we see Lucknow as a potential market.”

With 2015 being declared as the ‘Visit the Philippine­s Year’ by the department, a rise of 20% Indian tourist is targeted, Verna said, adding that focus was on to increase air connectivi­ty between the major airports of both countries.

To promote tourism, the department has been conducting road show in Nagpur, Chandigarh, Lucknow and Delhi since July 30.
