Oldest alumnus of LU passes away

BORN ON NOVEMBER 5, 1904, RN SHARMA WAS AWARDED THE QUEEN VICTORIA GOLD MEDAL FOR SECURING HIGHEST MARKS IN SANSKRIT AT THE UNDERGRADU­ATE LEVEL

LUCKNOW: The oldest alumnus of Lucknow University, Justice (retired) RN Sharma, who celebrated his 112th birthday on November 5, passed away at his Gurgaon residence on Tuesday.

Born on November 5, 1904, Sharma was awarded the Queen Victoria gold medal for securing highest marks in Sanskrit at the undergradu­ate level.

He post-graduated in Sanskrit and completed LLB from the university.

A retired judge of Allahabad High Court, Justice Sharma had great sense of humour too, recall acquaintan­ces. On being greeted on his 100th birthday, he is known to have smiled and said that he was one of oldest taxpayers of the country too.

His bereaved son, Ramendra Sharma told HT over phone that his father was very strict and maintained high discipline in life.
