LOW-COST HOUSING NEXT ON GOVT AGENDA
LUCKNOW: The state government proposes to reach an understanding with the Tata Group to facilitate low-cost housing in UP. The low-cost housing project came up for discussion between state government officials and Tata Trusts after signing of the MoU in the presence of the chief minister and Tata Trusts chairman Ratan Tata.
The state government proposes to reach an understanding with the Tata Group to facilitate low-cost housing in Uttar Pradesh. The move comes on the heels of signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Tata Trusts for partnership in the community development, health, education and solar energy sectors.
The low-cost housing project came up for discussion between state government officials and Tata Trusts after signing of the MoU in the presence of the chief minister and Tata Trusts chairman Ratan Tata.
“Yes, the state government has sent a team of senior officers to hold discussions with US experts who have arrived in Mumbai. The team would have discussions on low cost and expeditious construction of houses there. Besides secretary, housing, Pandhari Yadav the state government team comprises the Uttar Pradesh Rajkiya Nirman Nigam (UPRNN) managing director and the chief engineer of the UP Housing Development Board,” said chief secretary Alok Ranjan.
Meanwhile, the state government has constituted a steering committee headed by the chief secretary to work as a guiding force for implementation of its partnership programme for which the MoU was signed here on Monday.
The chief secretary said the state government had constituted a committee for implementation of the project that proposes to bring in research, technology and innovation to multiply manifold the impact of the programme.
As per the provisions of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that the state government and Tata Trusts signed on Monday, the committee would have representatives from both the sides.
Over 50% of the members would be required to be present to complete the quorum of the committee. Besides reviewing the progress of implementation, the committee would provide guidance for implementation, the review project outcomes and achievements, support for collaborations and modify addition of goals if necessary.
The Tata Trusts would set up a programme management unit to implement the programme. It would assist in development of off-grid electricity, in remote locations, assist in setting up high-tech nurseries, promote use of micro irrigation plasticulture, protected cultivation in shade/nets/greenhouses and development of technology demonstration centers.
It would also assist in designing and implementing nutrition programmes on a scale, targeting key micronutrients deficiencies, especially anaemia using the government’s feeding and distribution programmes – the ICDS, Mid Day Meal and PDS. JMP VISIT
Taking a break after the signing of the memorandum of understanding with the state government, Ratan Tata decided to savour the lush-green surroundings of the sprawling Janeshwar Mishra Park on Monday.
He was accompanied by minister of state for vocational training and skill development Abhishek Mishra, who showed him around the park.
“A trip to Lucknow without a visit to JMP is now considered incomplete,” said a park official, who said the VIP visitor stayed for about 10-15 minutes and appreciated the way the park has been developed.
