After AIADMK, BJD seeks removal of Arunachal governor
SHOWING SOLIDARITY Support of both parties to Cong raises troubles for BJP that is increasingly isolated on the issue
After all, rebel MLAs are part of the Congress family and have been misled by the BJP. They should realise their mistake and work to strengthen the Congress in the state. I have nothing against them.
NABAM TUKI, Arunachal Pradesh CM
After AIADMK, it was the turn of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Monday to raise the issue of Arunachal Pradesh governor JP Rajkhowa in Parliament and seek his removal.
BJD leader in Lok Sabha Bhartruhari Mahtab moved a motion seeking removal of the governor under rule 184 that entails voting. Speaker Sumitra Mahajan said the motion was under her consideration. After Mahtab raised the issue, all AIADMK members supported the move.
The BJD and the AIADMK are maintaining equidistance from the NDA and the UPA. Though they have supported the Congress on this issue, they have also been critical of it for disrupting Parliament.
Earlier in the Rajya Sabha on Friday, AIADMK members joined the Congress MPs in demanding the recall of the Arunachal Pradesh governor for summoning the assembly without seeking the nod of the state cabinet. The BJP is increasingly getting isolated in Parliament on the issue. HC ADMITS ARUNACHAL CONGRESS REBEL PLEA The Gauhati HC on Monday admitted a petition by TN Thongdok, deputy speaker of Arunachal Pradesh assembly, seeking vacation of its December 18 order that kept in abeyance governor JP Rajkhowa’s order advancing the assembly session by a month. It also issued an interim order restricting speaker Nabam Rebia from holding any session till January 4, the date for hearing Thongdok’s petition.
