Lucknow, Karampur in state hockey final
Hosts and defending champions Lucknow and favourites Karampur stormed into the final of the State Under-14 Boys Hockey Tournament, registering convincing wins, at the KD Singh ‘Babu’ Stadium here on Monday.
Lucknow crushed Ghazipur 8-3 after leading by 3-2 at the break, whereas Karampur brushed aside Etawah 4-1 after being locked at 1-1 at the half-time. S Ali continued with his good run for Lucknow as he struck three goals, including the first one in the eighth minute. Akash Yadav scored a brace, Divyanshu Sharma, Alok Mishra and Zahid shared three goals between them.
For Ghazipur, Akash Pal sounded the board twice, while Krishna Mohan scored one goal.
Ajeet and Manoj were the start perfor mers for Karampur in the second semi-final as they scored two goals each. Nitish struck the consolation goal for Etawah.
On Tuesday, final starts at 2.30 p.m., but before that Ghazipur will take on Etawah in the hard-line match at 1.30 p.m. The winners would be fetching Rs 2.5 lakh, whereas second and third place holders would be richer by Rs 2 lakh and Rs 1.5 lakh, respectively. THRILLING VICTORY
