NEW DELHI: Delhi Police arrested on Saturday one lawyer who allegedly led an attack on students and journalists at the Patiala House courts on February 15 and 17 but two of his co-accused continued to defy summons.

He was released on bail soon after his arrest, police said.

Om Sharma’s arrest came after he was summoned thrice by the police to join the probe into the attack on arrested JNU students’ union president Kanhaiya Kumar and later on journalists.

Kumar was arrested on charges of sedition for allegedly shouting anti-India slogans during a campus event to protest the hanging of 2001 Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru. The other two lawyers, Vikram Chauhan and Yashpal Singh, however, continued to defy summons by the police.

“He was arrested under sections of rioting, unlawful assembly and voluntarily causing hurt. He was interrogated at Tilak Marg police station and later released on bail,” DCP, New Delhi, Jatin Narwal said.

Sources said the police will now move court to issue warrants against the other two lawyers.

Meanwhile, the Delhi government on Saturday sent for forensic tests at least five video clips from the controversial event that has snowballed into a major controversy. Sources said the clips were sent for tests to verify their authenticity following allegations that they were doctored to nail Kanhaiya Kumar. New Delhi district magistrate Sanjay Kumar, conducting an inquiry into the incident, refused to comment on the issue.
