Delhi Police alert airports about three JNU students
SEARCH ON Cops issue lookout notices for Umar Khalid, Anirban and Riyaz
NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police issued lookout notices for three youths in connection with the sedition case filed last week for alleged anti-India slogans raised on the Jawaharlal Nehru University campus.
The police communicated the same to the Foreign Regional Registration Office (FRRO), requesting them to alert airport authorities so that the three suspects — Umar Khalid, Anirban Bhattacharya and Riyaz— are not able to leave the country.
Police said the three students were the main conspirators in the case as they were also present at the protest with JNU Students’ Union president Kanhaiya Kumar. They said the three encouraged people to shout slogans, and went missing after the crackdown on JNU. “The names of the three men surfaced when we questioned eye witnesses and went through footage thoroughly. We put their phones on surveil- lance but they are switched off,” a senior police officer said. He said they conducted raids to trace them. The police have recorded the statement of Khalid’s father Syed Qasim Illyas Rasool. He said Khalid never visited Pakistan and had no “terrorist” links. The police made a list of people who were in contact with Umar. Sources said Umar lived with one of his college friends and will be traced soon.
Sadiq Naqvi, a reporter with a news portal, who was detained from Bijnour on Friday was also questioned again. Naqvi allegedly was in the same college where Khalid studied earlier and was in constant touch with him.
Naqvi was called to the Vasant Vihar police station at 10.30 am. He was taken to the special task force office and reportedly ques- tioned till 1 pm about his friendship with Umar. He was later let off. Sources said they identified ten people suspected to have been involved in the case and are on the lookout for them. KANHAIYA’S FACEBOOK ACCOUNT HACKED?
Meanwhile, JNU president Kanhaiya Kumar’s Facebook profile and cover photos were changed late on Saturday, while he was in Tihar Jail.
Kumar’s display picture of himself against the backdrop of a Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) logo was changed to a picture of soldiers holding the national flag on a battle field.
His cover photo of the statue of seven martyrs at the Patna Secretariat was changed to a scenery in tricolour.
Kumar’s friends alleged that his account was hacked, but HT could not verify the allegation.
Within an hour of the picture being changed, 51 people shared his new profile picture.
