Prohibitory orders in Ggn, Maruti halts production
GURGAON: The Jat agitation and consequent violence in Haryana forced Maruti Suzuki Ltd to suspend manufacturing operations at its facilities in Manesar and Gurgaon.
Gurgaon deputy commissioner TL Satyaprakash on Saturday imposed section 144 of CrPc to ensure law and order in the district.
“Owing to the agitation in Rohtak and nearby areas, supplies of certain components have been disrupted. As a consequence, the company has had to temporarily suspend manufacturing at its facilities in Manesar and Gurgaon, starting Saturday...” said a statement from the company.
The company is trying to arrange the components from other sources to resume operations, it said.
Manesar and Gurgaon manufacture 5,000 vehicles per day. The restrictions, the order said, would be in place for next 60 days till April 19.
“The prohibitory orders under section 144 CrPc have been issued to thwart the possibility of unlawful activities in the district on account of demand of Jat reservation,” Satyaprakash said in the order.
The state administration also cancelled leaves of doctors at the state-run Civil Hospital in Gurgaon as a precautionary measure.
“We have sent a notice to the staff at the civil hospital asking them to reschedule their holidays and resume work. Seeing the situation in the city, the administration wants to be prepared for any situation that may arise here,” said Dr Ramesh Dhankhar, chief medical officer, Gurgaon.
