UP reels under heat wave
Several cities record temperatures above 43 degrees Celsius
LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh continued to reel under scorching heat as the mercury touched 44 degrees in Allahabad and 42.3 degrees Celsius in Lucknow on Friday.
According to the Met office, heat wave prevailed at isolated places in the state with Allahabad remaining the hottest place. Weather in most parts of UP is likely to remain dry with heat wave at isolated paces. Dust storm has also been predicted at isolated places in western parts of the state.
For most of April, temperature in the state capital has remained above 41 degrees.
The blazing sun forced people to remain indoors even on a working day on Friday. Traffic movement on most of the streets remained smooth due to fewer vehicles on the roads.
Several other cities in UP recorded above 41 degrees temperatures. Banda saw a high of 44.2 degrees Celsius, Varanasi 43 degrees, Fursatganj 43 degrees, Jhansi 42.3 degrees while both Sultanpur and Churk recorded a maximum of 43.2 degrees.
Weather experts have apprehended the ‘hottest summer’ not only in Lucknow but also in the rest of north India. People need to take necessary precautions to avoid dehydration.
“Water intake should be at hourly intervals. This will help keep the body hydrated,” said Dr Vinod Jain, a public health expert. Keeping in view extreme hot weather conditions, people also need to change their eating habits, he added.
“Food habits must also change and less oil should be used while cooking food,” said Dr PK Gupta.
