- HT Correspondent

Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav took officials by surprise when he paid an impromptu visit to the upcoming Jai Prakash International Convention Centre (JPNIC) and international cricket stadium here on Friday. According to reports, senior officials incharge of these projects had gone to apprise the CM about their progress and also seek time from him for the launch of city’s biggest shopping arcade ‘Shan-e-Awadh’ proposed near Shaheed Path.

Armed with information brochures about their achievements, these officials were taken by surprise when the CM told them he would like to make an on-site inspection to see how these projects were shaping up. While the VIP cavalcade pulled up at around 1 pm outside the under-construction JPNIC, the CM’s car drove all the way up on the high-ramp of the building. Akhilesh, who has roped in Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan for back ground commentary on the socialist icon JP, spent around 20 minutes at the site. The officials told him that the museum-wing of the JPNIC Centre would be ready by June 2016. In addition to a documentary film on late Jai Prakash Narain, his memoir- panels should be displayed at convention centre.

The CM asked the officials to expedite construction of 110 rooms in guest house block and issued instructions for giving final shape to the procedure to select agency for JPNIC’s operation and maintenance.

The under-construction cricket stadium-cum-multi-purpose Sports Complex at Shaheed Path was the next halt of the CM. He asked the officials about the progress on the proposed football stadium in the vicinity . The CM was accompanied by secretary, housing, Pandhari Yadav, secretary, Programme Implementation, Alok Kumar and LDA vice chairman Satyendra Singh.

THE CONVENTION CENTRE WOULD BE ONE OF ITS KIND IN INDIA AND ABROAD AND HIGH-LEVEL STEERING COMMITTEE WOULD BE FORMED FOR RUNNING THE CONVENTION CENTRE PROPERLY.
