THE LAND IN QUESTION IS SAID TO BE NAZUL PROPERTY AND IS LYING UNUTILISED

The Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) has sought land of the Colvin Taluqdars’ College and Lucknow Polytechnic to set up its casting yard for undertaking work on the KD Singh Babu-Munshi Pulia section of the North-South corridor of the project.

The LMRC has sought fourhectare land of Colvin Inter College and two hectare of Lucknow Polytechnic on a fouryear lease for its casting yard. The land in question is said to be nazul property (government land) and is lying unutilised, according to the corporation. To discuss the modalities, secretary, housing, Pandhari Yadav, has convened a meeting with the management of the two educational institutions , officials of technical education department, the LDA, Nazul and metro rail corporation here on Monday.

The LMRC and the LDA have already locked horns on a land parcel that the development authority has to transfer to the corporation to raise funds for the project through property development.

The state government had promised 150-acres of land in CG City on Sultanpur Road free of cost to LMRC to bankroll the project . The land is located in the vicinity of the upcoming international cricket stadiumcum-sports complex. The LDA, however, is reluctant to hand over this prime parcel of land to LMRC and has offered an alternative site in CGCity. The change of location has evoked protests from the LMRC, forcing its managing director Kumar Keshav to shot off a letter to the state government, saying that it cannot make changes in the undertaking given to the central government at the time of project approval.

The 22.8-kilometer North-South corridor from CCS Airport to Munshi Pulia would have 19 elevated stations. The European Investment Bank (EIB), which has already sanctioned a Euro 450 million loan to LMRC, is expected to release the first tranche of Euro 200 million soon. The LMRC is ready with the blueprint of 3.440-kilometer under-ground service from Charbagh railway station to KD Singh Babu Stadium.

“We have prepared the tender documents for the under ground section (estimate cost Rs 1300 crore) and send them for approval to the European Investment Bank (EIB),” said LMRC managing director Kumar Keshav. He said it would take about three-and-halfyear’s time from the commencement of work to complete the under ground section. The service on the 19.43-kilometer route from KD Singh Babu to Munshi Pulia would again run on an elevated section. LMRC Director (rolling stock and works) Mahendra Kumar said Rs 363 crore contract for traction and power supply for the entire 22.8-kilometer NorthSouth corridor and metro depot had been awarded to L&T and they were expected to have the first test run by June 2016. He said a 132 kva power sub-station would be set up at Sarojini Nagar for running the service on the priority section, initially.
