Trupti Desai, who came into prominence during her agitation demanding access for women at Shani Shingnapur temple, beat up a youth when he refused to marry his lover. According to Desai, the woman came to her complaining the man had exploited her.

Founder of the Bhumata Ranragini Brigade, Trupti Desai, who shot to fame by entering places of worship where women are prohibited, beat up a young man on Wednesday after he refused to marry a woman with whom he was allegedly having an affair.

The women’s rights activist along with her colleagues thrashed Srikant Londhe using slippers in full public view at Pune-Ahmednagar road near Shirwal, about 100km from Pune.

According to Desai, Londhe sexually exploited the woman after promising to marry her.

Desai also claimed that the woman was pregnant and Londhe promised to marry her if she chose to abort. However, he failed to keep his word even after the woman obliged, said Desai.

“We have taught him a lesson as he was deceiving two other women with same promises. I had no option but to take the law in my hands as the affected woman had initially gone to police who failed to act,” said Desai. The video of Londhe being beaten up by Desai went viral on social media. Many termed the incident as a ‘stunt’ and asked Desai to refrain from delivering punishments.

DESAI ALSO CLAIMED THAT THE WOMAN WAS PREGNANT AND LONDHE PROMISED TO MARRY HER IF SHE CHOSE TO ABORT.
