Student pursued two courses in same year, LU silent

LUCKNOW: A student pursued two degree courses simultaneo­usly in Lucknow University , contrary to the university ordinance which clearly states that a candidate cannot pursue two degree courses in the same academic year. This resolution was passed by the Lucknow University at its executive council meeting on May 10, 1950.

However, despite an RTI query being filed, the university is still to reply whether or not it took suitable action against the student.

Srivastava appeared in LLB I, II and III examinatio­ns in 1998, 2000 and 2001 respective­ly in DAV College, while he appeared in MSc (geology) part I and II examinatio­ns in Lucknow University in academic year 1998-1999 and 2000 respective­ly.

KB Singh, advocate, Lucknow high court, has sought informatio­n from the Lucknow University through an RTI applicatio­n regarding what action has been taken against Srivastava and whether or not his degrees have been cancelled . The registrar of the Lucknow University, also the public informatio­n officer of the university, has to reply to all RTI queries.

Singh sought informatio­n from the public informatio­n officer of the Lucknow University on July 30, 2015 and fielded first appeal on September 03, 2015, when he failed to get any informatio­n. Vice chancellor of the LU is the first appellate authority for an RTI applicatio­n. Singh then filed the second appeal in the court of state informatio­n commission­er Arvind Singh Bisht on October 8, 2015. However, even after subsequent hearings of the case at the SIC’s court, the Lucknow University has failed to provide any informatio­n. The next hearing of the case is scheduled on August 23 this year.

“I am not aware of any such RTI. I will take up the issue with the vice chancellor and registrar to expedite the matter,” said Prof NK Pandey, LU spokespers­on.

“A student has pursued two degree courses in the same academic year, which is against the Lucknow University’s ordinance. The case is pending in my court and its next hearing is scheduled on August 23,” said Arvind Singh Bisht, state informatio­n commission.
