Demand for making IET a university
LUCKNOW: The pitch for making the Institute of Engineering and Technology (an autonomous college of APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University) a separate university is getting louder.
IET director AS Vidyarthi made an appeal to the minister of state technical education FM Kidwai on Thursday to convert IET into an independent university. “We want to develop IET on the lines of IITs that is equipped with best of laboratories and world class infrastructure so that students are able to make best use of it. IET is the most preferred college of candidates seeking admission after qualifying the State Entrance Examination (SEE). We deserve to become a university,” said AS Vidyarthi, director, IET. He added, “Though we excel in several areas, yet we have to look forward to the university administration for every small and big change the college wants to bring in. Many of our good works get delayed as the university will get it passed through several committees like academic council, executive council, etc.”
This is not the first time that the demand to develop IET into an independent university was raised. In the past also similar attempt was made but it never materialised. In 2000, there was a similar demand to make IET a university. But somehow it fizzled out.
The minister, however, remained non-committal and remained silent on the matter.
