The city police on Thursday applied for permission from a court to attach the property of expelled BJP leader Dayashankar Singh. Decision on the police plea will be taken on Friday. Earlier on Monday, the police secured an arrest warrant against Singh from special judge of SC/ST court Om Prakash Mishra in the case of objectionable remark by Singh against BSP chief Mayawati. The expelled BJP leader is on the run after making the derogatory comment on July 19.

BJP’s women wing clashed with the police after being prevented from taking out a procession till Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar’s statue in Hazratganj on Thursday. The were demanding BSP leader Naseemuddin Siddiqui’s arrest for his alleged derogatory remark against expelled BJP leader Dayashankar Singh’s family.

In Ballia BJP minority cell leader Kamaluddin Sheikh was arrested for attempting immolation. He was also demanding Siddiqui’s arrest.

Back in Lucknow at least three women – Seema Swarnkar, secretary of the Lucknow unit of the women wing, Preeti Singh from Gorakhpur and Meenu from Agra – had to be rushed to the trauma centre after being injured in the scuffle with the police.

Carrying banners and posters that read ‘beti ke samman main bhajapa maidan main’ (BJP on road for daughter’s honor) , the women clashed with the police after being prevented from marching ahead. BJP youth wing general secretary Abhijat Mishra, who took the injured women to the hospital, said their condition was serious.

BJP spokesman Chandramohan said party’s state chief Keshav Prasad Maurya after visiting the injured women described the police action as ‘draconian.’

Last Thursday, Siddiqui was accused of saying that expelled UP BJP leader Dayashankar Singh “present” his wife and minor daughter before the BSP. Siddiqui had led the BSP stir against former BJP leader .

BJP women wing general secretary Anupama Jaiswal said, “We were attacked by the UP police for demanding that the BSP leadership should act against its leader in the same way as our leadership did with Dayashankar. We expected Mayawatiji to act as she is a woman too.”

Maurya said, “Mayawatiji’s continued backing of Siddiqui proves that her definition of woman’s honor differs from person to person. When a remark was made against her she was outraged and linked it with her honor. But when it came to the objectionable remarks made by her leaders, she defended them,” said UP BJP general secretary Vijay Bahadur Pathak.

The BJP women wing symbolically began its Thursday protest from Lucknow’s Parivartan Chowk, which was the first of the several monuments that BSP chief Mayawati got built during her four terms as UP CM. Apart from Siddiqui, the BJP also demanded action against another BSP leader Ram Achal Rajbhar. Interestingly, BJP lawmaker Krishna Paswan, an MLA from Khaga in Fatehpur, was also caught on camera saying that Siddiqui should also “present” his women members before the BJP.
