The metro rail service on the Amausi-Charbagh stretch is expected to be operational from March 26, 2017 – after a nearly four-month trial run on tracks from December to March, said LMRC MD Kumar Keshav on Wednesday.

Ticket-vending machines are expected to be brought to the city sometime next month. The order for 16 such machines and 16 smart card charging machines has been given to a Czech company that has promised to deliver the equipment in September.

Besides, four stations of Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) would be ready by September-end. Stations at Transport Nagar, Krishna Nagar, Alambagh, and Mawaiyya are being given final touches. After that, work on metro stations at Alambagh bus stand, Durgapuri, Singar Nagar and Charbagh would be taken up.

Meanwhile, the rooms for staff members of signals and communication wings of the LMRC are almost ready. Work on platforms and concourse would be taken up later.

COACHES

The coaches of metro train are being manufactured in Chennai. The base, sidewalls, end walls and roofs are ready and now the assembly work is in progress. LMRC MD Kumar Keshav said the coaches will be delivered in a record time of 65 weeks. Earlier, the record was held by Kochi metro which got the coaches prepared within 78 months, while Delhi Metro got its coaches after 104 weeks.

Keshav said LMRC is going to develop at least two pick-up and drop points near every metro station for feeder services, which would be bringing commuters from inner areas to metro stations. Special entry and exit points would be made for physically challenged commuters and they would be provided wheel chair facility at every station.

UNDERGROUND STATION AT AIRPORT

The Airport Authority of India (AAI) would be given the design of the proposed underground station at Lucknow airport within two days. The AAI and LMRC are coordinating for construction of underground station at the airport.

Keshav said the AAI wanted to know how the underground station would look like as they had some concerns over the height of the station which would be sorted out soon.

PARKING AT LIMITED STATIONS

He said facility of parking vehicles would only be possible at airport station, Transport Nagar station, Krishna Nagar station, Alambagh station and Charbagh station while other stations would be provided pick and drop points.
