Another sub-inspector succumbs to dengue
Another police subinspector (S-I) Anil Kumar Pandey (55), posted in city police prosecution cell, died due to dengue in Lucknow on Wednesday afternoon. His wife was also suffering from the same disease and undergoing treatment in a city hospital.
Earlier, S-I Krishna Gopal Shukla, 34, too had succumbed to dengue on August 13. The two sub-inspec- tors and their families stayed in residential quarters on the Aliganj police station campus. The second death in the colony created panic among other families staying there.
“Pandey was suffering from fever for the last four days and was taking self treatment, as his wife was already admitted to Vivekananda Polyclinic. He was rushed to the Vivekananda Polyclinic when his health deteriorated on Tuesday night but his condition did not improve. Thereafter, he was shifted to Globe Hospital, where he succumbed during treatment,” said KP Yadav, SO, Aliganj police station. Yadav said Pandey’s medical reports revealed that his platelet count was only 8,000 (which happens in case of dengue). Pandey apparently took the fever lightly and remained dependent on self treatment that deteriorated his condition. His wife, however, was recovering from the disease. Pandey is survived by eight daughters and his wife.
The SO said the second death in the colony calls for proper fogging to keep mosquito menace at bay. He said immediate efforts will be made to conduct a cleanliness drive in the colony.
