200 volunteers for WC hockey

LUCKNOW: Special lane for the buses, carrying the teams for the FIH Junior World Cup Hockey-2016, would be establishe­d in the state capital, when the mega event takes place here from December 8 to 18.

This was decided at a meeting of different department­s under the chairmansh­ip of principal secretary, sports, Anita Bhatnagar Jain here on Wednesday. Director sports, RP Singh, and the officials of police, transport, district administra­tion, health and Lucknow Developmen­t Authority were present at the meeting.

Jain, who spent a good time at the just concluded Rio Olympics, observed that buses ferrying the teams would also carry the stickers of “Specific” so that there would be no hindrance for the teams as the matches would be organised both the Dhyan Chand Stadium at Kuris Road and also at the Mohd Shahid Stadium in Vijayantkh­and here.

The meeting also decided to involve 200 volunteers (as it happens in big events like Commonweal­th Games, Olympics and World Cups) would be involved for the smooth conduct of the event. They would be given special dress. The organising committee would also ensure the presence of school students from all part of the state at the event.

In all 16 countries, including hosts India (which is conducting the event for the second time, and for the first time in Lucknow) have qualified for the prestigiou­s event, which is being conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Hockey under the patronage of the Hockey India.
