While three people drowned in different flood-hit areas of Varanasi, two boys died the same way in a Bhadohi village in the last 24 hours.

In the first incident, 22-yearold Jiya Lal Yadav met a watery grave after he came out of his house to save himself from a poisonous snake late on Thursday night. Two unidentified bodies were recovered from Nakkhi ghat and Sidhauna ghat of the Varuna river.

A youth was wearing a black T shirt. Police took the bodies into their possession and sent them for post-mortem examination.

Meanwhile, two young boys drowned in a pond at Mathetu village in Bhadohi when they went to bathe their on Friday.

According to the police, 11-year-old Abhay and 10-year-old Chhotu went to the pond in the afternoon. Abhay got into pond to bathe but he slipped into deep water and started drowning. His cousin jumped into the pond to rescue him.

In the attempt, he too was drowned. Their 12-year-old friend Vishal, who was present there, tried to save them but he could not do so. Later, he ran to the village crying for help. Hearing his screams, locals reached the pond. But it was too late by then. The locals fished out their bodies.

The Varanasi administration has appealed to the locals not to go into deep water. In addition, medical teams have also been put on high alert.

Many people in flood-hit areas of the temple town have yet not left their houses.
