Woman attacked with acid for resisting eve-teasers

-

A woman was attacked with acid for resisting advances by eve-teasers at Kanpur Central Station on Friday.

Screaming in pain, the woman reached the nearby Collectorgunj police station where a police officer, SK Singh, allegedly refused to help her. He said that the area where the incident took place did not fall under the jurisdiction of his police station and asked her to approach GRP station on platform number 1. The woman later reached UHM hospital on her own with burns on her face.

Speaking to HT she said: “Some people passed lewd comments and tried to molest me,”

At UHM hospital, the staff treated her shabbily and did not provide treatment to her for 30 minutes, eyewitnesses told the police. She was repeatedly asked to go to LLR hospital, some five km away. The victim is a resident of Civil Lines in Allahabad and had come to Kanpur. She reached Kanpur station at around 11.45 am and went towards the city side of the station.

CO, GRP, Ramkrishna Mishra failed to record her statement due to her condition.
