Pilots taking selfies mid-air, beware!

- HT Correspondent letters@hindustantimes.com n

India’s aviation safety regulator is set to issue a ban on pilots taking mid-air selfies inside the cockpit, following growing safety concerns, and a spate of complaints.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) recently grounded three IndiGo pilots for taking selfies in the cockpit .

Existing rules prohibit photography inside the aircraft, unless there is prior permission from the DGCA, but are seldom enforced by the airlines. “We have been receiving several complaints with pictures posted by pilots themselves on social networking sites like Facebook,” said an offi- cial. “Taking photographs is allowed when the plane is on the ground. But, it may be a safety risk once the aircraft is airborne. We will come out with a safety circular soon.”

Sources said the US aviation regulator Federal Aviation Administration has put in place restrictions on pilots taking in-flight selfies .
