The bodies of three minor sisters, who were reported missing from their villages on Friday afternoon, were recovered from a river on Saturday.

“The body of one of the sisters was found in the afternoon. The bodies of the other two were recovered later in the evening,” said superintendent of police (rural) OP Yadav.

“It seems that the girls accidentally fell into the river and got swept away by the strong currents which led to their death,” he added.

The girls aged 13, 14 and 15 left their house on Friday after returning from school to relieve themselves in the open but never returned. The family alleged that the girls were kidnapped following a property dispute.

“We deployed three police teams, a dog squad and divers in search of the girls,” said the SP.

Based on the post-mortem report of the girl whose body was found first, police claimed it was an accident. “The cause of death of the first girl is drowning as per postmortem report,” said the SP.

The post-mortem report of the others is awaited.

“The family members informed police about the girls on Saturday. We have registered a complaint regarding the incident and started investigation,” the officer said.
