Ill-health? Sheila ‘cuts short’ tour

- HT Correspondent

Former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit, who is the UP CM candidate of the Congress, on Saturday is said to have cut short her eastern UP tour after her health reportedly started deteriorating during the ‘27 Saal UP Behal’ campaign in Kushinagar district.

But some party leaders insisted that her departure was pre-decided and she was fine.

She returned to New Delhi by Vaishali Express from Gorakhpur in the evening. Her son and MP Sandeep Dikshit accompanied her during the return journey to the national capital.

Sources in Kushinagar said high humidity and high temperature reportedly led to her alleged poor health. “She looked exhausted and pale during the yatra,” said a leader requesting anonymity.

However, Congress functionaries, who accompanied her on the second day of the yatra that started from Gorakhpur circuit house said she left the tour as per a pre decided schedule.

“It is absolutely wrong. She is absolutely fine. By the time the yatra entered Kushinagar, it was 3.30pm. She had to leave immediately to catch the Vaishali Express which was scheduled to depart at 5pm,” said district party president Syed Jamal.

He said Dikshit’s schedule was sent to the district magistrate four days earlier and it mentioned that the former Delhi CM was supposed to leave for the national capital on Saturday.

Sheila Dikshit had fallen ill earlier on July 24, at the start of the campaign in western UP and cut short her trip from Amroha.
