The SC permitted Italian marine Massimiliano Latorre, one of the two accused of killing Indian fishermen off the Kerala coast in 2012, to continue to stay in Italy till an international tribunal rules which country has the right to try the case.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday said that it had been “taken for a ride” by the Sahara group in the past and asked for a roadmap from the company for paying the balance of `12,000 crore to SEBI.

Extending company head Subrata Roy’s parole till October 24, a bench headed by Chief Justice TS Thakur asked him to pay `200 crore. “You took us for a ride by giving SEBI a list of your already attached assets. We have lost faith in you. You give us some concrete proposal — a roadmap/ scheme as to how you plan to pay the balance `12,000 crore and in what manner, on affidavit,” a bench also comprising Justices A R Dave and A K Sikri said.

Sahara gave a list of 60 properties to SEBI to sell them for raising money the company owes to the investors. Fourty-seven properties were, however, provisionally attached by the income tax department.

The court’s observation came after senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for Sahara, requested the bench to give Roy one-and-half years to pay back the remaining amount to SEBI.

“Give me one and half year’s time. Allow me to do what I have to do... Don’t put any conditions…,” Sibal said.

“You have been in jail for over two years and we have given all the facilities you wanted to sell the properties. It is not denied that you have not paid the money,” the bench said, asking Roy to discuss the roadmap for future payments with senior advocate Shekhar Naphade who has been appointed to assist the court in the matter.
