Next phase of Metro work from October
STADIUM TO MUNSHIPULIA Residents should brace themselves for traffic diversions
The next phase of metro work from KD Singh Babu stadium to Munshipulia will start next month, as tenders have been finalised in favour of L&T, the company which has constructed the patch from Amausi to Charbagh.
“We have good coordination with L&T and they have worked well in the patch from the airport to Charbagh. The best thing is that we both know each other. However it would take a month to give them letter of acceptance of contract. After that they will start work on the 12.6 km long corridor,” said MD LMRC Kumar Keshav.
He said there would be three special spans and 9 metro stations in the 12.6 km corridor. The first span would be on river Gomti near Hanuman Setu , second near IT Crossing and third near Badshah Nagar crossing.
Traffic management would be on the pattern of Alambagh. Consequently, residents of University Road, IT crossing, Badshah Nagar, Indira Nagar and HAL should prepare themselves for new traffic adjustments. With construction starting soon, new traffic management on the pattern of Alambagh would be implemented. “Managing traffic in Alambagh was challenging, but we did well. Here too we will manage things,” said Kumar Keshav.
A part of the land of Birbal Sahni Institute of Paleobotany would be taken for construction of the Metro station , while land of Colvin College would be used for casting yard. A part of the land of polytechnic on Faizabad Road would also be taken to store metro goods.
Metro from airport to Munshipulia would become operational in March 2019.
Kumar Keshav said LMRC would speed up the pace of work in the corridor from stadium to Munshipulia because it had to make metro functional from Amausi to Munshipulia in March 2019 and would not miss the deadline.
The LMRC has exchanged 3D designs with Airport Authority of India (AAI) for underground metro station at the airport. The work for the station would start immediately AAI board passes the proposal.
Once metro starts functioning in March next year, a campaign to motivate people to use metro as public transport would be started. “We will educate people about the utility of public transport as it would save a lot of money and fuel,” said Kumar Keshav.
