“Watch out live press conference about a surgical strike. Indian army has done it,” Subodh Shukla, a young executive, commented on social media as soon as the news break came in.

Facebook, Twitter and even Whatsapp were flooded with comments with people congratulating each other for the achievement of the Indian army. A few also decided to review the entire situation and calculate the risk involved if the neighbouring country retaliated. But for the day, it was all praise for the army jawans.

“Indian army has entered into PoK and has killed terrorists,” posted Varsha on her Facebook account. Just like in other parts of the country, the mood was of celebration in Uttar Pradesh too. Citizens were all praise for what the Indian army did, calling it a much-needed action.

The military action was the sole topic of discussion at tea stalls, food joints, sweet shops and colleges throughout the day in Lucknow, Varanasi, Allahabad and other cities.

Khushboo Dutta, a research scholar in the state capital, shared, “Good to hear that action was taken against the culprits sitting in the neighbourhood, but hope they are not at the cost of innocent civilians inhabiting the border areas.”

LUCKNOW:

She had some other concerns, too. “Government should also immediately arrange for shelter for those who have to evacuate the border areas, and human rights should not be violated. Especially, women and children are the worst affected when it comes to war, hence, they should be saved first,” she said.

By evening as social media got flooded with comments that villages in border areas were being evacuated, more concerns were raised. “Lives of innocent people should not be lost. I believe army knows this and will do the needful,” came from Amit Kapoor, a young realtor.

Till late in the night messages about actions, repercussions, past history of war and surgical strikes, right from what US did to eliminate Osama, kept pouring in on cell phones and other social media platforms.

In Allahabad, residents and traders under the banner of Bharat Uday Sewa Sansthan gathered in Chowk area and distributed sweets. They also burst crackers. “We salute Indian army. It was a great strike,” said state president of Vyapari Sena Pappanji Tandon.

State president of Bharat Uday Sewa Sansthan Dr Rama Singh and national head Ram Prasad Yadav opined that the Indian army should completely wipe out terrorist camps in Pakistan.
