Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi took potshots at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying that he did not keep his promise of providing employment to youths. He reasserted the Congress’ pledge to waive loans of farmers and slash people’s electricity bills to half.

He assured all help to the students of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) with regard to their demand for minority status to the institution and asked them to meet him in Delhi.

Gandhi reached Aligarh around 3.30 pm on Friday and was extended a grand welcome at Ghabhana. The Congress vicepresident was in Bulandshahr earlier in the day.

Accompanied by former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dixit, Rahul waved at supporters when his road show entered the city area. He stopped at various locations and addressed the crowds through a mike.

Rahul Gandhi thanked NSUI workers for being active in the road show and reminded people about the Congress’ agenda of ‘Kisan Yatra’ which includes ‘karza maaf ’ (loan waiver), ‘bijli bill half ’ (power bill cut by half) besides proper rates for crops of farmers. He asked party workers to reach villages to get forms filled by the farmers.

Gandhi said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had forgotten his promise of providing two crore jobs every year. The Congress vice-president blamed the BJP for conflicts like the one in Haryana where Jats and non-Jats came face to face.
