Supporters of minister’s son, nephew trade fire, six injured

Six people were injured when supporters of the son and the nephew of UP forest minister Durga Yadav exchanged fire during a programme at Ukrauda village in Azamgarh during the wee hours of Saturday.

Police said the minister’s nephew, Pramod Yadav, had gone to the village to attend a programme and feast at the house of gram pradhan Brijesh Kumar.

reportedly entered into an argument after which supporters from both the sides opened fire and resorted to stone-pelting. Six people were injured in the incident.

Police reached the spot and took six people in custody. Vijay left the spot and reached the police station. A complaint was lodged by Ranjeet against 14 people. Pramod, the former block chief, was detained by the police.

Sources said Pramod’s relation with his uncle turned sour during panchayat polls when he did not get ticket to contest for the post of district panchayat president.

Durga Yadav indicated that his son would be his political successor and he reportedly had a role in denial of ticket to Pramod whose domination and popularity was increasing in the region.

The minister said he had no informatio­n about the incident as he was in Lucknow. He said action would be taken against the guilty.
