Anti-encroachment drive called off
LMC IS PLANNING TO CONSTRUCT OFFICES OF THE LUCKNOW MUNICIPAL CORPORATION AND SMART CITY AT THE VENUE
The anti-encroachment drive at Chakbast Kothi was called off due to intense opposition by the encroachers. Anticipating violence, the antiencroachment drive to demolish 14 shops at Chakbast Kothi was called off by municipal commissioner.
Since morning, a group of lawyers and shopkeepers had gathered in large numbers to oppose the drive, they had collected stones to throw at LMC officials and police force.
Municipal Commissioner Udairaj Singh said, “The drive would be carried out again after the festival of Diwali as the shopkeepers had requested not to demolish the shops before the festival.”
The Chakbast Kothi is now in possession of Lucknow Municipal Corporation. The LMC has got eviction orders of these shopkeepers. But these shopkeepers are not vacating these shops anticipating relief from authorities.
LMC is planning to construct a ten-storeyed building which would house office of municipal corporation and Smart City.
