A Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable hanged himself after killing his wife in Alambagh here on Sunday morning. Their bodies were found in the constable’s official accommodation at RPF colony near Tejikheda locality.

The deceased Pushpendra Singh, 26, a resident of Bijnore, had married Priyanka Singh, 24 of Kashipur in Uttarakhand in March this year. He brought his wife to Lucknow three months ago reportedly after she refused to stay with his parents in Bijnore.

“The couple’s relationship was strained as the woman did not have liking for the constable’s parents and it finally resulted in the tragic incident. The constable even sent a text message to his father Ved Prakash Singh stating that neither he nor his wife would remain alive (ab meri patni aur main dono zinda nahi rahenge),” said Parshuram Tripathi, inspector, Alambagh police station.

He said the victim’s father read the message after which he alerted the constable’s commandant, who in turn informed the local police. The bodies were found in the locked house when the police team reached the spot apprehending some untoward incident.

“The woman’s throat slit body was found lying in a pool of blood on the bed while the constable’s body was hanging from the ceiling fan of the room,” he stated.

“The constable apparently had a verbal duel with his wife over visiting Bijnore during Diwali, as she did not want to go there and this led to the incident,” explained the inspector.

The constable’s father alleged that his son’s wife used to put pressure on him to end ties with his family. The woman’s brother Mukesh Chauhan accused constable’s parents for troubling his sister and torturing her for dowry.

However, no formal complaint was so far lodged with the police in this connection.
