IPS officers may seek justice from PM on disparity with IAS
Indian Police Service (IPS) officers are planning to take their fight for parity with Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers to the doorstep of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The IAS, IPS and Indian Forest Service (IFS) are designated as All India Services (AIS). Both the IPS and IFS have been demanding parity in pay and promotions with the IAS. “The 7th pay panel examined the long-standing demand for parity. After extensive study and stakeholder consultations, in a majority opinion — barring the lone dissenting voice of a member who is a retired IAS officer — the panel recommended parity among the AIS in the matters of pay, empanelment and opportunities to compete for senior positions,” said the IPS central association in a statement following its annual general body meeting two days ago.
It said the principle of pay parity was subsequently endorsed by the ministry of home affairs (MHA). The MHA then forwarded it to the personnel department for the final decision, where it is still pending without any indication of any forward movement. “We are left with no option but to knock on the PM’s door,” said an IPS officer.
