BIG WINNERS

AMAR SINGH, NATIONAL GENERAL SECRETARY: Mulayam and Shivpal’s lofty praise for him makes it clear that he will stay, despite the Akhilesh camp seeking his ouster. SHIVPAL YADAV, STATE PRESIDENT: Though sacked by Akhilesh Yadav from the government, Shivpal stands to gain. He retains state presidentship and got full support from Mulayam for engineering merger of Mukhtar’s Quami Ekta Dal (QED) with the Samajwadi Party. MULAYAM SINGH YADAV, PARTY CHIEF: Mulayam showed who the boss is and played his role of party patriarch and ultimate power centre pretty well. GAYATRI PRASAD PRAJAPATI, CABINET MINISTER: Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav sacked Gayatri last month but took him back. Neither Mulayam nor Shivpal said a word against Gayatri despite the fact that Akhilesh had complained: “Gayatri does not listen to me.”

BIG LOSERS

AKHILESH YADAV, CM: In a setback, Mulayam praised all those whom Akhilesh attacked: Shivpal, Amar Singh and Gayatri Prasad. His efforts to sideline Amar and his demand for a bigger say in the party’s ticket distribution were turned down. But, he can take comfort in the fact that he continues to be the CM RAMGOPAL YADAV, CM LOYALIST: He did not find any support at the meeting. No sign of his return to the party was indicated. His son, Firozabad MP Akshay Yadav, too may feel the heat AKHILESH’S YOUTH LEADERS AND SUPPORTERS: Sunil Singh Sajan, Anand Bhadauria and more than 20 others, including an MLC relative of Ramgopal, continue to stay out of the party. Shivpal and Mulayam did not show any sign of clemency for them
