Jawan, 6-yr-old killed, 8 wounded as Pak firing hits Jammu villages

JAMMU: With no let up in truce violations by Pakistan, a BSF jawan and a six-year old boy were killed, while a BSF officer and a jawan were among eight injured as Pakistani Rangers sprayed mortars and heavy machine gun fire through Sunday night targeting at least 25 Indian posts and over 18 villages along the internatio­nal border in RS Pura, Kanachak and Pargwal sectors of Jammu district.

Similarly, 50 cattle died and 182 others were injured in the Pakistani shelling across the border district.

While Pakistani Rangers flared up RS Pura, Arnia, Kanachak and Akhnoor sectors, BSF claimed it responded in equal measure.

BSF Jammu Frontier DIG Dharmender Pareekh said, “Head constable Sushil Kumar, a native of Pehova in Kurukshetr­a district of Haryana sustained splinter injuries in the upper part of his chest while retaliatin­g the Pakistani fire. He was immediatel­y evacuated to the government medical college and hospital in Jammu and given first aid, but he unfortunat­ely succumbed to his injuries at 12.30 am on Monday”.

The jawan had sustained grievous injuries at Sangral post in RS Pura sector.

Pakistan flared up the border and targeted almost all posts north of Suchetgarh in RS Pura to Chenab River in Akhnoor.

Pareekh further said the Pakistani fire was strongly retaliated which has caused them heavy damage.

BSF ASI RD Puri was also injured at Abdullian post. Puri, 48, of the 127 Battalion hails from Sivan district in Bihar. He was admitted at the GMCH in Jammu.

BSF jawan Ayyappa Babu of the 33 Battalion also suffered bullet injuries in his left leg at a post in Chenab river area in Pargwal sector.

Pakistan fired 82mm and 120mm mortars at Korotana Khurd, Bidhipur, Rattan, Abdullian, Chanduchak, Hansuchak, Sai Devigarh, Sai Nikowal, Joura Farm and many other forward villages.

Jammu deputy commission­er Simrandeep Singh said, “A sixyear old boy Vicky died and a girl suffered fracture in her leg after a shell exploded during the early hours of Monday at Lalyal in Kanachak sector in Akhnoor sub division of Jammu district.”

The two children are from a migrant labourer family from Bihar, he said.
