LUCKNOW: Even forensic experts’ marathon discussions, scene reconstruction and multiple lab examinations have not unravelled the mystery over the death of renowned doctor Joy deep Sircar. Experts of State Forensic Laboratory, Mahanagar haven’t given a very clear opinion in their report submitted to the city police but hinted towards the ‘suicide theory’.

Dr Joydeep Sircar, 47, was found dead on the roof of his twostorey bungalow behind Fatima Hospital in Mahanagar on February 2. His family said the doctor committed suicide by shooting himself with his licensed revolver but the post-mortem report raised suspicion of murder. The report revealed that he was shot twice – on the right temple and forehead. “We received the forensic report on Thursday night but it did not have any clear opinion whether Dr Sircar had committed suicide or was he murdered,” said Manzil Saini, senior superintendent of police (SSP) of Lucknow. She however added that the experts had mentioned in the report that the bullet wound on forehead was tandem bullet shot, which means the bullet fired was of low velocity so it could not do any major damage and even could not pierce through the doctor’s skull.

She said the report reads this may be possible with the tandem bullet shot in the course of penetration. Reflex of the neck and head might have given two passages to the bullet. “Due to the dissimilarity in the velocity of the bullets discharged, one stuck in the brain cavity and another got the exit. The blackening and tattooing present all around the wounds confirmed the close shot fire. We cannot exclude suicidal/ accidental phenomenon,” read the forensic experts’ report.

The SSP said the experts are of opinion that the doctor then fired second bullet on his right temple that pierced through hishead and got exited from left side resulting in his death. She said the ballistic report had confirmed that both bullets were fired from Dr Sircar’s licensed revolver that was found from the spot. The SSP said the handwriting report of a suicide note recovered from the spot is still awaited. She said the report will clear the facts.
