ANTEHRI (KURUKSHETRA): It took 86 days for the Haryana government to disburse ex-gratia payment to the family of Machhil braveheart Mandeep Singh, whose body was mutilated, after they met chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar and threatened to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A cheque of ₹50 lakh was given to the family on Saturday afternoon but other promises made by the CM are yet to be met.

“The chief minister had announced to give ex-gratia of Rs 50 lakh and a government job to my younger son Sandeep, besides construction of a memorial on his funeral ground but he could not keep his promises”, martyr Mandeep’s mother Nirmala told Hindustan Times.

Khattar had visited the family and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 50 lakh to Singh’s kin and promised a government job to a family member. The family members also claimed that he promised promotion of Prerna, but had now gone back on it.

“Even, we met the chief minister four days ago at his residence in Chandigarh and he assured the demands will be fulfilled, but refused to accept the demand of promotion of Mandeep’s widow Prerna, who is a constable in Haryana police”, she said.

“I cannot take decision (of her promotion) alone and this need to be discussed with the cabinet colleagues the chief minister told us’, she said.
