Security upped after reports of threat to PM in Mau

Amid reports of a possible attack on the cavalcade of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Mau on Monday, security agencies have been put on high alert and tight security arrangemen­ts made to deal with any exigency. The PM is scheduled to address a poll rally in Mohammadpu­r Shahroj near the national highway in Mau.

According to ANI, Mau ASP RK Singh said: “Rasool Pati and associates are planning to attack the PM’s cavalcade with rocket launcher and explosives.” Rasool Pati is an accused in former Gujarat home minister Haren Pandya’s murder case.

However, the police denied any such intelligen­ce input.

Speaking to media persons, DIG Uday Shankar Jaiswal said, “Though we haven’t received any intelligen­ce input about such a threat, strong security arrangemen­ts have been put in place to deal with any urgent situation.”

Jaiswal said, “Special Protection Group members, PAC jawans, and police personnel will keep a strict vigil on the venue. SPG has already taken the venue under its guard. A bomb disposal squad and a dog squad have been deployed at the venue.”

He further added that 10 SPs, 15 ASPs, 20 circle officers, 20 inspectors, 30 intelligen­ce sleuths, 80 sub-inspectors, 2,500 constables and six companies of PAC have been deployed at the venue.
