Revised syllabi at Arts College soon
LU will also offer additional 40 seats in the college
After 20 long years, the syllabi across all departments at the College of Fine Arts will be revised from the next academic session.
A decision to this effect was taken in a meeting of the vicechancellor with faculty members of the college on Monday. It is an attempt by the university to breathe a new lease of life in this over century-old institution.
“The syllabi hasn’t been revised for more than 20 years,” said LU spokesperson Prof NK Pandey. Lucknow University has also agreed to offer additional 40 seats in the college – a long pending demand of students. “These will be distributed proportionately in all departments after students have finished their first year,” said Pandey.
Besides, students enrolled in the college will be taught common syllabi in the first year, and based on their merit in first year, they would be offered specialised courses in the second year, he added.
To ensure regular attendance, it was proposed to have biometric attendance system in the college.
“Initially, attendance information from the college will be sent to the vice-chancellor’s office by 9:30 am in the morning and 4:30 pm in the evening,” said Pandey.
He said, “The college timings will be 9 am to 4 pm. Additional hours for practical classes will be offered from 7 am to 9 am every day.”
Among those present in the meeting apart from faculty members were pro-vice-chancellor Prof UN Dwivedi, chief provost prof Sangeeta Rani, proctor Prof Vinod Singh, LU spokesperson Prof Narendra K Pandey and dean of the faculty of fine arts, Ratan Kumar.
The college hogged the limelight this year when Rashmi Singh, a student of Master of Visual Arts in painting, bagged the coveted Chancellor’s Gold Medal at Lucknow University’s convocation in January. Sources said it was for the first time that a student of Arts College bagged this medal at the convocation.
