Ahead of the seventh and last phase of the Uttar Pradesh assembly election on Wednesday, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Monday claimed her party’s victory in the polls that began on February 11.

She said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Samajwadi Party-Congress alliance were fighting for the second position.

Addressing reporters at her official residence, Mayawati said, “I have collected the feedback on six phases of the poll from responsible leaders of the party and reliable sources. They told me the BSP took the lead from the first phase and will form a majority government,” she said.

“The BJP leadership’s dream to form a government in UP has been shattered and the state assembly election will have an impact on the 2019 Lok Sabha polls as well. The BJP will not be able to form the government at the centre (in 2019). The BSP will stop Modi’s victory in UP and Delhi,” she said.

The BJP failed to fulfil its 2014 Lok Sabha election promises and ‘guru- chela’ (Modi-Amit Shah) implemented demonetisation to hide their failure, she said.

The note ban made the common man suffer a lot of hardship, she said.

The four-time former Uttar Pradesh chief minister said when the duo (Modi-Shah) found that defeat was certain, they started playing the religion card to polarise the voters.

In a lighter vein, Mayawati said chief minister Akhilesh Yadav was doing a good job by raking up the ‘stone’ issue at public meetings and he was, in fact, highlighting elephant statues during the election campaign.

Earlier, his father Mulayam Singh Yadav used to raise the China bogey, she said.
