BHANSALI’S PADMAVATI SET VANDALISED IN MAHA
MOB DAMAGES ANTIQUE COSTUMES AND PROPERTY
The shoot of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming film on Rani Padmavati came to a halt on Wednesday when a mob attacked the set near Panhala in Kolhapur district, damaging antique costumes and properties.
Private security guards reportedly told the police that a group of about 50 people hurled petrol bombs at the set at midnight, which led to a fire that was brought under control almost an hour after the incident.
A few animals, mainly horses, were injured in the attack. The film’s team was assessing damages till late in the afternoon.
No organisation has claimed responsibility for the attack yet. Police are investigating the case though no official complaint was filed. Bhansali is reportedly in Panhala, a hill station near Kolhapur. He is yet to respond to the incident.
Panhala police inspector Dhanyakumar Ghodke confirmed that attackers used petroleum bombs.
“We have formed a few teams to arrest them,” he said.
Some bottles containing petrol and soda were recovered by the police from the site.
This is the second attack on Bhansali’s film set.
Shooting was disrupted a few months ago in Jaipur when Karni Sena members damaged cameras and other shooting equipment and even assaulted the filmmaker for wrong portrayal of Rani Padmavati in the movie.
Several members of the film fraternity had expressed their anger at the incident and asked the community to stand together.
